We also have an abundance of aged Sugar Maple trees located throughout the property. For the last two years, we have educated ourselves and experimented with the techniques. Our sugar maples have been tapped, sap collected, and then reduced down to the desired maple syrup consistency. Maple trees should be at least 30+ years old before they are tapped. Trees are not harmed by the tapping process. Tapping a tree only harvests about 10% of all the sap that tree will produce.
In 2022, we completed construction on a venue barn to host weddings and special events for a site fee. We plan to market our very own maple syrup at each event. For example, selling our mini bottles of maple syrup as favors for the guests. The event barn has diversified our farm and given us an important revenue source to help keep the farm operational and will continue to allow us to grow. Diversification is essential to sustaining agricultural farming today.
